Early Spring

Early Spring

It's been ages since I felt the rain That long winter nearly drove me insane I see fog on the mountain tops Way up high in the sky between here and where heaven stops Next thing I know a few drops fall on my face Washing me away to a better place All I needed was some birds to sing Then I would have surely known it is early spring Oh my! It's really started coming down Soaking me from my toes to just beyond my brow I should have been careful what I wished for It was only the beggining, there will be more and more Tempestuous wind blows upon me All alone in the storm there I be The lightning strikes were bold and the thunder was loud It was raining cats and dogs, God was really showing off now When will it stop? There was no end in sight Drop after drop on into the night I tried to close my eyes but I couldn't sleep a wink Those gray skies really made me think The conclusion I came to was spring is surely here There was no confusion, only bliss and cheer Then I closed my eyes I had dreams of flowers and blue skies I slept for hours and hours, I did not want to wake Until the sun rose with daybreak The birds began to sing I waited all winter for this, I waited for spring
